Letter (1774) from Huntington to the Committee of Observation in Windham, postponing conclusion upon letter received from the committee; letter from I. Tilghman, aid to Washington (1782), asking Huntington to come to headquarters on the morrow, to adopt some general principles; and letter (1787) to Col. Joshua Huntington from Samuel McClellan, at Norwich, Conn., sending 12 bu. of flaxseed to exchange for oil, with note at bottom from B. Leffingwell.

Brigadier General Jedediah Huntington was born in Norwich, Conn. He graduated from Harvard in 1763 and received his master's in 1770 from Yale. After graduating from Harvard, he became involved with the Norwich Militia, eventually becoming a Captain in May, 1774. In the spring of 1776, now a Colonel, he marched to Dorchester Heights. Joshua Huntington (1751-1821), the son of Jabez Huntington (1719-1786) who made his fortune in shipping, was born in Norwich, Conn. Joshua joined Putnam's brigade in 1775 and was later employed in securing shipping for the use of Continental troops. In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
